Heart Function Impairment Management

What this assessment covers

Impaired heart function whether due to ischaemic heart disease, cardiomyopathy, or valvular disease results in the heart’s inability to pump efficiently, causing breathlessness, fatigue, ankle swelling, and reduced exercise tolerance. Dr Islam provides specialist assessment to determine the underlying cause, severity, and best management strategy.

The consultation integrates symptom evaluation with echocardiographic assessment of cardiac function, biomarker results, and medication review. The goal is to optimise heart function, reduce symptoms, and slow disease progression through evidence-based therapy and ongoing monitoring.

Treatment FAQ

Common questions

What happens during this consultation?

Dr Islam will review your symptoms in full, assess your current medication, and arrange an echocardiogram if not recently performed. Blood tests including BNP or NT-proBNP may be requested to assess heart strain.

Echocardiography is central to assessing heart function and is often arranged on the same visit. Blood tests and an ECG will also be reviewed. Where device therapy or electrophysiology assessment is needed, Dr Islam will coordinate the appropriate referral.

Heart function impairment requires regular review. Dr Islam offers structured follow-up consultations to monitor symptom stability, titrate medications, review echocardiographic findings, and adjust the management plan over time.
