Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to book a consultation?

A referral can be helpful but private appointments can also be arranged directly. If you have existing reports or test results, bring them so they can be reviewed in context. Most private medical insurers will require a GP referral before authorising treatment — check with your insurer in advance.

Please bring a list of your current medications and doses, any previous cardiac investigations (ECG traces, echocardiogram reports, blood test results, or hospital letters), your GP referral letter if you have one, and your insurance authorisation number. Arriving a few minutes early allows time to complete any necessary paperwork.

Where clinically appropriate, investigations can often be arranged on the same day at the same hospital site. These may include a 12-lead ECG, echocardiogram, 24-hour heart monitor, ambulatory blood pressure recording, or blood tests. Dr Islam will explain clearly which tests are indicated and why before arranging them.

Yes. Ongoing follow-up consultations can be booked at either Circle Reading Hospital or Spire Dunedin Hospital. Dr Islam provides continuity throughout each patient’s care — from initial assessment and investigations through to ongoing management and annual review.
