Treatment Detail

Pre-operative Cardiac Assessment

Thorough cardiovascular evaluation for patients preparing for non-cardiac surgery identifying and optimising cardiac risk to help ensure the safest possible surgical outcome.
Pre Operative Cardiac Assessment

What this assessment covers

Many patients scheduled for elective or urgent non-cardiac surgery have underlying heart conditions that require evaluation and optimisation before an anaesthetic. Dr Islam provides comprehensive pre-operative cardiac assessments in line with current ESC guidelines, helping surgical teams understand and manage perioperative cardiovascular risk.

The assessment establishes the nature and severity of any cardiac condition, reviews current medications, and produces a clear clinical report for the surgical and anaesthetic team. Where further investigation or treatment optimisation is needed prior to surgery, this is arranged promptly.

Treatment FAQ

Common questions

What happens during this consultation?

Dr Islam will take a full cardiac and medical history, review your current medications, and carry out a cardiovascular examination. He will assess the cardiac risk associated with your planned surgery and arrange any additional investigations needed before the procedure.

Depending on your cardiac history and the nature of the surgery, additional tests such as an echocardiogram, stress test, or blood tests may be arranged. A written pre-operative report will be provided for your surgical team.

For patients with previously unknown or undertreated cardiac conditions identified during pre-operative assessment, Dr Islam offers follow-up consultations to establish longer-term management once surgery has taken place.
