Coronary Intervention

What this assessment covers

Coronary intervention — commonly known as angioplasty and stenting is a minimally invasive procedure used to open narrowed coronary arteries and restore or improve blood flow to the heart muscle. Dr Islam is an experienced interventional cardiologist who performs PCI for stable angina, acute coronary syndromes, and complex coronary artery disease.

The pre-procedure consultation covers the indication for intervention, the technical approach, expected outcomes, and potential risks. Dr Islam ensures patients understand the procedure fully and have the opportunity to ask questions before any decision is made.

Treatment FAQ

Common questions

What happens during this consultation?

Dr Islam will review your coronary angiogram or CT findings, discuss your symptoms, and explain whether coronary intervention is the most appropriate treatment for your specific anatomy and clinical situation. All alternatives will also be discussed.

Before proceeding to PCI, a coronary angiogram or a CT coronary angiogram if not already performed will be arranged. Blood tests, an ECG, and echocardiogram will also be reviewed as part of the pre-procedure work-up.

Post-PCI follow-up is an important part of care. Dr Islam provides structured review appointments to ensure antiplatelet therapy is maintained appropriately, symptoms have resolved, and any further coronary disease is monitored.
